Cadillac Records and Tori Handsley are delighted to announce the release of Tori’s highly anticipated debut album, As We Stand. Tori’s reputation as a musician in a variety of environments has never been greater, and her improvisational skills, on show monthly at the innovative Freedom: The Art of Improvisation, which she has co-hosted at London’s Vortex club with jazz warrior Orphy Robinson MBE and Straight No Chaser boss Paul Bradshaw during the last few years, ensure that she stands out in the current crop of young, politically and musically motivated players on the London scene.
Listen to the first single from the album: What’s in a Tune
As We Stand is a brave and powerful work that will change attitudes to Tori’s instrument, the harp. It also showcases Tori’s writing – both lyrical and musical – which proves to be sophisticated and mature. The band are every bit the equal of these scores: drummer Moses Boyd needs no introduction following his groundbreaking duo Binker and Moses’ international success (Tori featured on their albums Journey To The Mountain Of Forever and Alive In The East – with free jazz legend Evan Parker) and Mercury Prize nomination. Ruth Goller (Melt Yourself Down, Acoustic Ladyland) is a key figure on the London scene, widely regarded for her powerfully rhythmic playing. Vocalist Sahra Gure is quickly establishing herself as one of the most stylish and versatile singers around, recently working with Dele Sosimi, Cleveland Watkiss MBE, Ashley Henry among others.
As We Stand is a statement – political, environmental and musical – by one of the most interesting young musical talents around and we’re proud to release it to the world!
